About Next Gen

More Than Hockey

Behind Next Gen

Who We Are

Next Generation Girls Hockey is a program which creates meaningful development, competition and mentorship opportunities for female hockey players.

We believe talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not. In many developing hockey countries, girls have limited access to female-specific programming, consistent competition and clear pathways to continue progressing within the sport.

Next Gen was created to help change that.

What We Do

Through camps, development programs, tourneys, educational sessions and ongoing mentorship, Next Generation provides young female athletes with opportunities to:

  • Develop their skills and understanding of the game
  • Compete alongside and against other female players
  • Learn from experienced coaches, athletes and mentors
  • Build confidence, leadership and lasting connections
  • Discover opportunities to play and study abroad
  • Better understand the pathways available within Women's hockey

Our programs focus on developing the complete athlete. We combine on-ice instruction and competition with education, mentorship, goal-setting and personal development.

Why We Created Next Gen

For many girls, the desire and ability to improve are already there, the opportunities are not.

In countries such as Spain, young female players often grow up competing primarily with boys and may have limited opportunities to play regularly with girls their own age. As they get older, they can be expected to move directly into senior women’s hockey without having experienced a consistent girls’ development pathway.

This transition can be challenging and may cause talented players to lose confidence, feel disconnected from the sport or stop playing before reaching their full potential.

Next Generation was created to help bridge that gap by giving girls more opportunities to compete, learn, make mistakes, build confidence and continue developing in an environment designed specifically for them.

The Opportunity We Are Creating

We are building more than individual events. We are creating a connected pathway that supports players throughout their development.

Through season-long competition, development programs, mentorship and educational opportunities, our athletes gain valuable experience both on and off the ice. They become part of a community where they can meet players from other clubs, learn from female role models and see what may be possible for their own futures.

Every additional game, practice, conversation and connection can make a difference.

Our Story

From Player to Founder

Next Generation Girls Hockey was founded by Sara Molina, a Spanish-Canadian former student athlete and Spanish national team player.

Born in Spain, Sara’s hockey journey took her from Europe to North America, where she became the first Spaniard to play NCAA hockey. Her experience allowed her to see firsthand how access to consistent competition, quality coaching, mentorship and exposure can shape a young athlete’s development, both on and off the ice.

Her journey was made possible not only by hard work, but also by the people who guided her, believed in her and helped her understand the opportunities available beyond her immediate hockey environment.

Why Sara Recognized the Need

Having experienced the Spanish hockey pathway before playing in North America, Sara saw firsthand the differences in opportunities available to young female players.

She understood what it meant to have the talent and ambition to progress, but limited access to female-specific competition, experienced mentors, and information about international pathways.

Sara created Next Generation with a deeply personal purpose: to help the player she once was.

Next Gen provides the opportunities she wished she had growing up, a place for girls to develop, compete, connect with role models, discover new pathways, and believe their hockey journey can go further.

The goal is simple: to ensure the next generation doesn’t have to navigate its future alone.

“Next Generation Girls Hockey is a welcoming, family-oriented community that brings together primarily Spanish female players, with the aim of supporting them in both their athletic and personal development and helping them achieve their goals.

At this stage of my journey as a women’s ice hockey coach, I want to share my experience and knowledge with players, providing them with the tools, guidance, and support they need to continue growing and take on new challenges.

Through Next Generation Girls Hockey and the opportunities we offer through tourneys and camps, we want Spanish players to feel supported and to share this journey with others who have the same dreams and goals. We want to show them that through hard work, dedication and sacrifice, they can work towards achieving any goal they set for themselves.”

“Hockey has been a huge part of my life for more than 12 years, and some of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had have come from the people, leadership opportunities, and relationships the game has given me.

As a women’s college hockey player at the University of Tampa and team leader, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for girls to have opportunities, role models, and a community that encourages them to keep playing.

I’m excited to bring my experience both on and off the ice to Next Generation Girls Hockey, mentor young players, and help create opportunities that allow the next generation to grow in the sport and see a future for themselves in hockey.”

Sobre Next Gen

Detrás de Next Gen

Creando oportunidades

  • Competir y conocer a otras jugadoras
  • Desarrollar confianza, liderazgo y relaciones duraderas
  • Descubrir oportunidades
